Miami Springs Golf and Country Club

650 Curtiss Pkwy, Miami Springs, FL, United States

Miami Springs Golf and Country Club is a neighborhood in Miami Springs, Florida, and the Country Club Estates mostly features midsize golf homes that are competitively priced. The development of Country Club Estates was built on level, sparsely wooded terrain to the southwest of Miami and was envisioned as a self-contained community with clearly defined commercial, recreational, and residential sectors.

The Miami Springs Golf and Country Club Estate first began in 1921, when the Curtiss-Bright Ranch Company was developing the City of Hialeah. Mr. Curtiss envisioned an adjacent community to the west of the Miami Canal as a planned residential community. The plan for the community included wide boulevards, large single-family residential lots with stringent building and zoning laws, and a golf course. The Curtiss-Bright Ranch Company began clearing the land in Country Club Estates (City of Miami Springs) around 1924, and the Country Club Estates have continued to develop over the years.

Most of the development was carried out as planned and the present street layout of the community closely mirrors that of Curtiss' original design. The community's principal boulevard, Curtiss Parkway, links the present Miami Springs Country Club with the development's commercial plaza. Located along Curtiss Parkway is the development's former hotel building, presently the Fairhaven Retirement Centre. The area immediately adjacent to Curtiss Parkway and its terminating circular plaza has largely maintained its historic commercial and governmental use. The remainder of the present-day community is almost exclusively residential, thus respecting the primary use intended for the community.

All of the buildings, family homes and golf condos included in the Miami Springs Golf and Country Club Estates thematic group reflect the influence of the Pueblo Revival style in design. Physically, the Miami Springs Pueblo Revival buildings and golf real estate are typically one or two-story masonry s of hollow clay tile construction. Exterior walls are of rough-textured stucco, usually with blunted or rounded corners. Roofs are flat with irregularly rounded or stepped parapet walls. Ornamentation is very sparse and is usually confined to stylized bell-cot motifs or projecting wooden roof beams (vigas) in the parapet walls. Contemporary additions have also been made to most of the buildings, although most have been made to rear elevations and do not seriously compromise the architectural integrity of the historic structures.

Miami Springs Golf and Country Club's charm and tradition are what make it a favorite amongst the residents of Country Club Estates and visitors alike. Featuring the only practice facility with night-time access in South Florida and 18-holes of challenging and rewarding golf for all levels of skill, Miami Springs is a must-play. The historic layout, where legends like Sam Snead and Gene Sarazen established their golf legacies stretches to 6,755-yards from the longest tees for a par of 71. Clubhouse amenities include a Pro Shop and a comfortable bar and restaurant to relax in. There are also meeting rooms and conference facilities and the club can cater to private events with several function spaces available.
