Okeechobee KOA Resort is a tropical vacation campground resort in South Okeechobee, Florida, easily accessed via US Route 441. Situated close to Okeechobee Lake, also known as the Big O, Okeechobee KOA Resort offers RV sites where their customers can hook up their own RV or mobile home, as well as holiday or camp overnight in a one of the resort’s fully furnished deluxe cabins, camping cabins, or deluxe tents. Also a part of the neighborhood, although separate from the KOA Resort and campground, is the Oaks at Shannon’s Crossing which is a small apartment complex that abuts the resort’s golf course.
Okeechobee KOA Resort is a popular vacation destination and the little community’s RV and camping sites host vacationing families and tourists all year round. There are roughly 500 camping sites and golf homes at the resort, but it’s best known for its numerous recreation facilities and amenities. Resort amenities include the 9-hole KOA Fairways golf course, golf practice facilities, mini-golf area for kids, swimming pool, fitness center, snack bar, hot tub and sauna, children’s playground, pavilion, bike rentals, tennis courts, pickleball courts, and pool tables.
Aside from the many amenities and facilities, Okeechobee KOA Resort also has regular seasonal activities that are posted on its website. Some of the activities include golf tournaments, tennis tournaments, and marathons, just to name a few. There is also live music and entertainment happening every weekend at the Shanty Lounge. Guests can simply hang out at the lounge or dance the night away. For private events the resort’s expansive pavilion can be rented out as a function venue along with banquet and meeting facilities.
The Okeechobee KOA Resort community is just a mile away from Lake Okeechobee and the resort facility takes full advantage of this by setting up a boat ramp where guests can hire a boat along with a local guide to take them to the best fishing spots on the lake. There are occasional fishing tournaments held throughout the year and just about every water-based activity one can think of can be enjoyed on Florida’s largest freshwater lake.
