The Pine Oaks of Ocala golf course first opened in 1956 and expanded to a 27-hole facility in 1988. However, the expense of keeping the course became too much for the city, which caused its decline. The private operator asked to end its agreement, and in April 2019, the golf course closed.

After closing the golf course the available land is set to be transformed into a new and exciting residential development. Once complete, the area will feature roughly 1,000 golf homes, including apartments, single family homes, and townhomes.

Upcoming golf houses in Pine Oaks of Ocala will be affordable homes, with at least 20 percent of the golf properties will be constructed to meet affordable housing standards. Single family homes will start at $155,000 or below, with rental prices to be sat at approximately $700 a month for a one-bedroom unit and about $1,200 for a three-bedroom apartment.

Plans for the development are for more than 217-acres between Northwest 21st Street and Northwest 35th Street. The city and West Oaks Developers LLC have approved the redevelopment and will name the community West Oaks.

Part of the agreement with the developer will see the building of the community in four phases stretching into late 2027. The first phase will include renovating the existing clubhouse with a fitness center and a swimming pool with a splash pad.

Located in Ocala, future residents of Pine Oaks of Ocala will be near daily conveniences and plenty of amenities. Ocala is an affordable town with plenty of economic development projects in the works. It is also recognized as one of the best and safest places to live and retire in the country.
