With over 11,000 residents Sun City Center is one of the first Florida retirement communities near Tampa. This 55+ community provides reasonably priced golf homes while offering resort-style amenities and a great variety of activities suited to every resident. Sun City Center is built around three amenity campuses each with their own facilities, including fitness, social and hobby activities.
Sun City Center started its development in 1961 by Del Webb. The initial developers sold the remaining undeveloped land in 1972 after announcing they would no longer continue the development and since then the community has had several well-known and respected developers expand the neighborhood and its range of golf homes
Most golf houses in the neighborhood are single family homes, but duplex villas and condominiums are also available. These golf properties range in size from 1,503-square feet to more than 3,000-square feet and feature 2 to 3-bedrooms, 2 to 3-bathrooms, and an attached 2 to 3-car garage.
This golf community is home to a fantastic array of amenities for its 55+ active residents and the Central Campus has several buildings and outdoor activity courts. The Atrium is at the heart of the Central Campus, and is where many community activities are held. This campus also has its own fitness center, an indoor lap pool, indoor walking and therapy pool, an aerobics and dance studio, a large conference center with several meeting rooms, and more. There are also three regulation-size lawn bowling courts, shuffleboard courts, a library, an outdoor pool, art studios, and a woodworking shop.
The South Campus includes a 10,000-square-foot Community Hall that is primarily used for dinners, dances and stage shows. It also has four pickleball courts, ten Har-Tru tennis courts, a softball field, two volleyball courts, and two dog parks. The West Campus is mostly reserved for RV storage and gardening plots.
Residents of Sun City Center live a low-maintenance and active lifestyle with nearly 200 clubs and special interest groups that cater to residents. Each golf home owner’s yearly dues pay for the use and upkeep of the library and buildings that house the various activities. All the golf properties in the community also belong to one of the more than 100 Homeowners’ Associations which charge a monthly or quarterly fee to cover lawn care, landscaping and irrigation.
