The Diplomat Golf Resort & Spa is currently closed for redevelopment by SLS Resorts.  The Diplomat was a Mediterranean-style resort situated just 1.5 miles from the Hallandale city center and between Ft. Lauderdale and Miami.  Just two miles from Gulfstream Park (horse racing and casino), The Diplomat had its roots back to the original Diplomat Hotel/Resort on the same site and frequented by celebrities such as Bob Hope, Dean Martin, Lawrence Welk as well as many others from that era.  The area is also close to Mardi Gras Casino and a greyhound racing track that hosts the World Classic.

The 127-acre resort property was purchased by Ari Pearl's Development company in 2019 with plans to build a 26-storey SLS Residence luxury apartment building under the SLS Hotel brand, with 250 golf homes ranging from one to three bedrooms and including 50 ‘condo hotels' on the top floor.  The owners of these residences may decide to live in them, rent them out, or a mixture of both, creating a fantastic opportunity to both buy and rent out a brand new golf house.

The $220 million redevelopment of The Diplomat Golf Resort & Spa is set to open in 2022 and will also include a 10-court tennis complex and a 48-slip Marina, a mixology lounge plus a Katsuya restaurant, and bar.

Only 5 acres will be used for the luxurious golf property development, with the remaining 122 acres to be home to an 18-hole Greg Norman Championship Golf Course.  The opening of the new Resort and Golf Course has been delayed through 2021 and, at the time of writing, details are relatively scarce.  However, we understand the Club will be rebranded as The Shark Club by SLS Hotels and will open in the Summer of 2022.  Looking at the renderings from the Developer, the new SLS Residence complex will be an enviable redevelopment of the prior Diplomat Golf Resort & Spa site.

Hallandale Beach is in southern Broward County and is so close to Miami-Dade County and the city of Miami.  Due to the city's proximity to Miami International Airport, a large number of tourists and visitors eventually retire in Hallandale Beach, generating one of the fastest-growing populations in Broward County and Metro Miami.

Interestingly Hurricane Katrina made the first landfall between Hallandale Beach and Aventura in Miami-Dade County but was fortunate to dodge the landfall of Hurricane Irma.  The latter was forecasted to hit Hallandale, but moved further south, making landfall in the Florida Keys and again, further north on the Southwest coast of Florida.  The Diplomat Golf Resort & Spa remained safe and sound throughout these extreme weather events.
