C.K Hutchison

C.K Hutchison or Cecil Key Hutchison was born in London in 1877 and was educated at Eton College, Windsor, where he reportedly excelled as a sportsman. He represented The Household Brigade at cricket and also on occasion turned out for Marylebone Cricket Club between 1898 and 1904.

In 1986 C.K Hutchison received his commission in the 3rd Battalion of the Royal Scots before transferring to the Coldstream Guards in 1898. His first active service was during the Boer War and he was involved in the battles at Poplar Grove and Driefontein.
Upon his return to England Hutchison turned from cricket to golf, quickly becoming one of the greatest golfers of the day. Hutchison also worked as an assistant to James Braid on the King's and Queen's courses at Gleneagles as well as Carnoustie before re-enrolling in the army in 1914.
After the war, Hutchison continued his design work at Tadmarton Heath and Kington before teaming up with S. V. Hotchkin and Guy Campbell to form the Links and Courses company in 1926. They completed several projects in the south of England before Hutchison went back out on his own, working on courses such as Harewood Downs and the Alisa course at Turnberry.
