Dave Charles Thomas

Dave Charles Thomas was born in Newcastle, Northumberland, England in 1934, he is widely known as a golfing legend in the 1950s and the 60's who won several tournaments and national opens in the UK and Continental Europe. Dave represented Great Britain and Ireland in the biennial Ryder Cup matches against the United States on 4 occasions and played the World Cup representing Wales 11 times. But his most significant feat was making it to the British Open where he tied and lost a 36 hole play-off with Peter Thompson in 1958 and placed second to Jack Nicklaus at Muirfield in 1966. Though he placed second, people remembered him for being a fighter.

Arthritis ended his career prematurely as a professional golfer in 1969. But this opened a new door for him to be one of the greatest course designers in history. Dave designed close to 150 courses in Europe including Russia, the Middle East, China, and South America. His most highly acclaimed project was the 36-hole Terre Blanche resort in the south of France.

Dave Charles Thomas has a reputation for taking a relatively uninteresting tract of land and turning it into an exciting golf layout. As a professional golfer, he has a clear understanding of how the game can be played at the highest level then designs courses to meet those challenges.
