Harry Rainville

Harry Rainville was born on October 3, 1905, in St. Onge, South Dakota, USA, and designed at least 21 courses during his career. He served on the Board of Directors for the American Society of Golf Course Architects and was a member of the USGA. After a distinguished career Harry passed away on September 1, 1982, at the age of 77.

Rainville's original designs are predominantly found in the western United States and Asia, with the lion’s share located in Southern California. In addition to his new courses, Harry also redesigned and remodeled numerous existing courses. Together with his son David Rainville, the two were able to design and construct some of today's most notable golf courses.

Some of Harry Rainville's better known golf course design includes Chula Vista Golf Course, Birch Hills Golf Course, El Prado Golf Courses, Butterfield Stage and Chino Creek, Chevy Chase Country Club, Seven Hills Golf Club, and Laguna Woods Golf Course. He also designed the National City Golf Course, Rivers Edge Golf Course, Newport Beach Golf Course, Alta Vista Country Club, San Juan Hills Golf Club, and more.
