Jock Young

Jock Young was a keen Australian amateur golfer and club member who worked as a greenskeeper after the first world war. In this role, he designed or assisted with the construction of several golf courses in Victoria.

Jock, who was the club's head greenskeeper at the time, designed the Riversdale Golf Clubs' first course at Waverley. Club professional Jock Robertson and Jock Young laid out the new course on the Yarra River Flats in 1927. This 18-hole layout at this, the club's third home, was built on a property known as St John's Wood. Young's course occupied a site that was 160-acres in size but lasted only a few years because the state government extended the local rail line and forced the club to give up some land and re-route its golf course.

When the Kew Golf Club expanded and redeveloped its layout after the purchase of new land in 1922 Jock Young assisted club professional Jock Robertson when he laid out the new course on the Yarra River Flats. Young was also the man who designed the original nine holes at the Portsea Golf Club.
