Rick Jacobson’s philosophy towards golf course design is to create an unforgettable layout that stirs the imagination, challenges the competitive spirit, and engages a golfer’s mind... as well as his body. Whether designing a new 18-hole course or renovating a venerable classic, the goal is to produce a test of strategy and skill so enjoyable that a golfer will want to return time and again.
The agrarian society of Sweden formed a close connection between its people and a reverence for the land. Rick Jacobson comes from a family lineage that closely connects him to his family’s Swedish heritage. At an early age, Rick was exposed to the outdoors and love of the land by his grandparents. This appreciation for the environment led Rick to an education in landscape architecture while never forgetting to adhere to the stewardship of the land.
As a golf course architect Rick believes that the land gives birth to golf courses and that it is the task of the architect to bring out the best in a course, and in those who play it by creating challenges and beauty that stands the test of time. Rick’s is a design philosophy that embraces the grand tradition of golf course architecture; that of combining imagination with experience to exploit the beauty of the native landscape, not to change it, but to enhance it for the enjoyment of all golfers.
