Roger Rulewich
A graduate of Yale University, with a degree in civil engineering, Roger Rulewich started his career in golf design as an apprentice to Robert Trent Jones, Sr. Upon the retirement of Jones Sr. in 1995, Rulewich, with 30 years of experience plus the wisdom passed on to him by his boss, set up the Roger Rulewich Group. Today, he is the Chief Golf Architect of Rulewich and Fleury Golf Design.
Even now, Rulewich still designs golf courses the old-fashioned way – by hand and on-site. He believes that only such a highly personal and creative approach can result in courses that balance aesthetics and playability, shot values and flexibility, as well as beauty and challenge.
Over the years, Rulewich has designed and renovated over 125 courses across America and all over the globe. Among his more recent credits are the Saratoga National Golf Club in New York and the Grande Dunes Golf Club in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Rulewich’s firm also completed the renovation of Bermuda’s Port Royal Golf Course – the much-talked-about site of the PGA of America’s Grand Slam of Golf. Most recently, Rulewich oversaw the development of the Rei Dom Carlos – the Championship course of the new Roncao D’el Rei resort in Portugal. This world-class destination has a total of four golf courses.
Roger Rulewich was inducted into the American Society of Golf Course Architects (ASGCA) in 1974 where he also served as President in 1987. He is an active member of the organization to this day.
