Scott Macpherson

Scott Macpherson was born in New Zealand in 1971 and received his tertiary education at Massey University, gaining a Bachelor in Horticulture with Honours in Technology, 1993 before traveling to the United States to attend the University of California.

Golf found Scott at the age of 14 and soon he was playing junior golf for Paraparaumu Beach Golf Club. It was these internationally well-known links that inspired Scott to live in golf course design. Following a period working for five-times Open Champion Peter Thomson in Melbourne, Australia, Scott moved to the United Kingdom and in 1998 took up residence at St Andrew's.

Macpherson worked for American Denis Griffiths for four years as the on-site architect for the two courses at St Andrews Bay - now known as Fairmont St Andrews. When the courses were completed, Scott spent two further years working at the company office in Atlanta. Macpherson returned to Scotland in 2004 and in the same year set up his own design company.

On his approach to golf course design, Scott states, "I want our golf courses to be expressive places where players can be rewarded for their industry, bravery, and resilience. If we apply ourselves to the art of designing strategic courses of beauty and substance, golfers will be enriched by the playing experience and want to return."
