Steve Smyers
Steve Smyers grew up in Houston, Texas, where he was introduced to golf at the age of 3 by his father and scratch golfer, Carroll Smyers. It wasn't until the age of 16 when Steve was caddying in the 1969 U.S. Open and listening to the professional golfers discuss the design of Champions Golf Club, that Steve's passion for golf course architecture began.
Steve started his own architecture firm in the 1970s. Over the past 40 plus years, Steve has gone on to design courses throughout the world, including the U.S., U.K., United Arab Emirates, Australia, France, Iceland, Zimbabwe, and Ecuador. Some of Steve's most notable designs include Old Memorial Golf Club, Wolf Run Golf Club, Isleworth Country Club, Maridoe Golf Club, Chart Hills Golf Club, Evian Golf Club, Butterfield Country Club, and Olympia Fields Country Club - South.
Steve is deeply involved in his community and believes in giving back to the game of golf. Steve served on the USGA Executive Committee from 2006 to 2011 and is the first and only golf course architect to do so. Additionally, Steve served as President and an Executive Member of the American Society of Golf Course Architects Committee and co-founded The First Tee of Lakeland.
