Set in the foothills of the majestic MacDonnell Ranges in Australia's red center, the Alice Springs Golf Club boasts one of the world's finest, 18 holes, desert courses.
Australia's golfing legend Peter Thomson, with his business partner Michael Wolveridge, designed and constructed the course during the early 1980s. Alice Springs is rated 43rd in Australia by The Golf Course Guide 2018 and the layout has been favorably compared with famous courses around Palm Springs in California.
The course opened in 1985 with a match play exhibition in which Greg Norman defeated Johnny Miller. In 1996 a young Adam Scott and Aaron Baddeley played at Alice Springs in the Australian Junior Championship.
The magnificent championship layout has large tee blocks, fully grassed rolling fairways, and huge, well-bunkered putting greens set against the stunning natural backdrop of the ancient MacDonnell Ranges.
Alice Springs Golf Club has garnered a reputation as a course of unique charm blended with some subtle severity. Accuracy is a must and even the boldest hitters must harness their power and replace it with discretion to ensure a safe landing, rather than challenge the menacing rocky outcrops which lurk at the edges of several of the fairways.
The fully-equipped clubhouse provides a restaurant and bars, a well-stocked pro shop, driving range, putting green and bowling green.
