The 18-hole Aroeira Challenge golf course (formerly Aroeira II) is set in the tranquil Herdade da Aroeira estate, south of Lisbon, Portugal. Located a 30-minute drive from the center of Lisbon and less than 10-minutes away from the Fonte da Telha beach. The par 72 Aroeira Challenge is characterized by its pine trees, lakes, and bunkers.
Opened in 2000, designed by Donald Steel, and built to exact European Tour recommendations, Aroeira Challenge compliments its older sister well. It has hosted the Ladies European Tour Qualifying School and several ladies’ Portuguese Opens while a major investment program has taken place since 2014 to upgrade the course conditioning and guest experience.
Visitors will enjoy the distinct tranquil and serene Aroeira environment but will discover a course that possesses a few more thrills and spills along the way. At 6,367 meters from the back tees, Aroeira Challenge bares its teeth with water in play on no fewer than nine holes and large, undulating greens test even the best putters.
The Aroeira Challenge course presents an attractive and increasing challenge. Despite the inviting nature of its greens, the Aroeira Challenge golf course becomes increasingly difficult as players progress through their rounds. Unlike its sister course, Aroeira Pines Classic (formerly Aroeira I), the Aroeira Challenge Course features bunkers on the fairways, including some Scottish-style pot bunkers.
