Briar Bay Golf Course is a par-31 executive-style golf course that stretches over thirty acres. It was designed by Bruce Devlin and Robert Von Hagge in 1974 and first opened for play in January of 1975.
The Parks Department acquired Briar Bay in 1979 and has operated it since that time. The course ambles west, north, east, west, south, and finally east again as it rewinds its way to the clubhouse. Briar Bay Golf Course sees over forty thousand rounds of golf played each year and has been a popular destination with top players and beginners alike, offering something for everyone.
The public 9-hole course covers 1,869-yards from the longest tees and features Bermuda grass greens. Golfing facilities at the course include a driving range, bunker, and putting green. Briar Bay also has a Pro shop, rental clubs, and carts.
Briar Bay patrons are offered golf lessons and youth programs via the Palmetto Golf Academy at Palmetto Golf Course. The academy employs three PGA professionals who are all well versed in the latest technology and teaching strategies. Palmetto Golf Academy provides individual, group, and camp instruction for aspiring golfers of all ages.
Other attractions near the Golf Course include Briar Bay Linear Park, which is just nestled next to Publix and adjacent to the golf course and is considered a classic Miami park, and South Dade YMCA Family Center that offers youth sports, community events, camps, and health and wellness.
