Colony West Golf Club, Championship Course is not far from Tamarac, Florida is the Colony West Golf Club which features two very different publicly accessible 18-hole golf courses. Colony West's Championship Course offers golfers one of the most challenging championship layouts in South Florida, whereas the Glades Course is a short course that provides an excellent change of pace.

Bruce Devlin and Robert von Hagge designed the Championship Course, which opened in 1971 for the Jackie Gleason Classic (renamed the Honda Classic) as a monstrous 7,553-yard track. Jack Nicklaus and the Tournament Committee said the course was too tough for the event and so 52 of the 137 bunkers were removed, but Mr. Nicklaus still shot a 78.

The Colony West Golf Club, Championship Course current par 71 layout still challenges even experienced golfers and has been rated by Golf Digest to be among the top courses in the United States. Measuring 7,258-yards, the course has narrow fairways and a deep rough, as well as plenty of water. Strategic bunkering protects small, well-manicured greens, requiring players to think their way around the course to take advantage of scoring opportunities. The signature hole is a 452-yard par 4 that requires a tee shot through a cypress forest to an island green.

In 2018, after renovating all 18 greens on the Championship Course, the practice green, and all the greenside bunkers, the original clubhouse was torn down and replaced with a 107 room Fairfield Inn and Suites, along with a new 11,000-square foot state-of-the-art clubhouse that can accommodate banquets and meetings of up to 250 people. The clubhouse has a great restaurant, The View at Colony West, and the Pro shop is there, too, stocked with everything needed for a great round.
