Situated on the secluded 400-acre Deer Island, amidst the Harris Chain of Lakes section of Oklawaha River Basin in Tavares, Florida, the Deer Island Country Club is home to Central Florida's only island golf course. The Deer Island Country Club layout, previously known as the Deer Island Golf and Lake Club first opened for play in 1994. Designed by renowned golf architect Joe Lee, who believed that a day of golf should be enjoyable and wasn't interested in terrorizing everyday golfers, the Deer Island layout measures 6,885 yards from the longest tees.
Undulating greens and strategically located visible hazards, together with unique bunkers are part of Lee's trademark design, and all are realized on Deer Island as it carves its way through the environmentally protected Florida wetlands. The Deer Island Country Club also features a six-acre driving range and practice area with two large tee areas. A spacious putting green and pitching greens are also included, while the club's teaching staff is available by appointment for personal and group lessons, from beginners to aspiring Tour players.
The Pro shop at Deer Island Country Club offers a wide selection of men's and women's logoed golf apparel from Adidas, Kate Lord, and Ahead. The clubhouse also provides carry headwear, logoed towels, and golf balls. Rentals for clubs and carts can also be availed inside.
With seating for up to 50, the golf course's old Florida-style clubhouse entertains golfers with its vaulted ceilings, along with a full bar and restaurant. Large-screen TVs complement the lunch menu in a perfect setting for after-round relaxation and socializing. For other entertainments and activities, the Deer Island Country Club provides amenities like a lake-side swimming pool, locker rooms, tennis, and pickleball courts.
