Two hours south of Perth on the Indian Ocean coast is Dunsborough. This once sleepy, but now thriving seaside tourist town is home to the publicly accessible Dunsborough Lakes Golf Course.
This 18 hole, championship course is located just a short walk from the town center and is close to the beautiful sheltered beaches of Geograph Bay and the famous surf beach of Yallingup. The world-renowned Margaret River wine region is also nearby.
This par 72, resort-style layout can be played either walk or cart and has few mature trees, no severe rough, but plenty of water. The terrain is relatively flat, but gentle fairway undulations help to create a link feel.
Opened in 1993, all the holes are well manicured with undulating bent grass greens and broad Wintergreen fairways, interspersed with numerous lakes and water features that host a wide variety of native birdlife.
Measuring 6,200-metres, the course was originally designed by Australian PGA great Alan Murray, winner of the French Open, the Australian PGA, and the Australian Wills Masters. More recently it has been reviewed by PGA veteran Lyndsay Stephen and Phil Scott of Scott Golf Designs.
Dunsborough offers golfers a driving range, putting green and practice bunkers and the clubhouse has a pro shop, bar, and bistro.
