The Elanora Country Club, originally designed by Dan Soutar, is one of the most prestigious golfing institutions in the north of Sydney and was formed on 19th October 1928.

The site chosen for Elanora, which is an Aboriginal word meaning "home by the sea," had panoramic views of the coastline north of Sydney, but the original land was rocky and hilly and covered with stunted vegetation. The first nine holes were opened on 29th May 1929 and the second nine in 1930.

At the Annual General meeting in July 2000 the members of Elanora voted for and approved a Master Plan which addressed the major safety issues of the course and a different order of play for the second nine holes.

All fairways were grassed with couch and all greens rebuilt and grassed with a hybrid A1 bent grass. A substantial practice facility was also included which saw the first and ninth holes being reversed. Environmental wetlands were also part of the plan which created more balance between the front and back nine.

With the completion of the James Wilcher's reconstruction plan in 2004 Elanora Country Club is now undoubtedly home to one of Sydney's finest 18-hole championship golf courses. Measuring 6,264-metres the new and more challenging par 72 walk or cart layout, magnificent fairways, huge rolling greens and possibly some of the finest golf course views in the country all combine to provide members with a unique golfing experience.

There are practice facilities for players wishing to hone their game and in addition to the golf course Elanora has several sporting activities on offer. These include two immaculate greens for lawn bowls, four premium all weather tennis courts and a croquet lawn. The impressive clubhouse has both bar and dining options for its members and the club can provide multiple catered function spaces.
