The Fishers Island Club is a private country club and 18-hole golf course located near the eastern end of Fishers Island in New York. The island is a small exclusive area of beautiful beaches and gracious residences.
The course often referred to as the "Cypress Point of the East," opened in July 1926 just a few months after the death of its architect, Seth Raynor. Most of the holes on this links-like layout have water views of Block Island Sound or Fishers Island Sound.
Like his mentor Charles B. Macdonald, Raynor patterned many of the holes after classic designs at other courses including the Alps, Biarritz, Cape, Double Plateau, Eden, Punchbowl, Redan, and Short. Since 1995 Gil Hanse has advised the club on ongoing course improvements.
The 6,566-yard overall length of the par 72 layout is not particularly taxing. The real challenge of the course is keeping the ball in play. The rough can be brutal and the cavernous bunkering is often especially penal making accuracy the key to a good score.
Caddies are available at Fishers Island and golfers can take advantage of the driving range and practice green. The country club has five tennis courts and an ocean beachfront with a Beach Club for member use as well as both golf and tennis pro shops. The clubhouse has two dining rooms and can cater to large groups and functions whilst still offering golfers an excellent spot to relax with either a drink or a meal after a round.
