Just south of Orlando and Disney is the 36-hole Grenelefe Golf and Tennis Resort West Course, which offers golfers a very different resort golfing experience. Formerly a 54-hole championship facility, Grenlefe featured three unique golf courses, the South and East Courses, as well as the now-shuttered West Course.
Grenelefe Golf and Tennis Resort is away from the hustle and bustle of the nearby tourist attractions and is known for providing golfers a secluded golfing experience. The 18-hole West Course, designed by golf architects Robert Trent Jones, Sr., Ron Garl, and Andy Bean, features 7,325-yards of golf from the longest tees for a par 72. It has a slope rating of 133 and a course rating of 75.6.
The Grenelefe resort itself really began in 1974 when a group of investors took over the site which, at the time, was made of one golf course and a few homes. The property now spans 1,000-acres with two golf courses, 22 tennis courts, a convention center, three restaurants, four swimming pools, a marina on Lake Marion, and 405 resort-owned rental condominiums.
The resort also offers golfers a driving range, putting green, and a short game area with a sand bunker. There's also a teaching pro and golf school academy, Pro shop, snack bar, and lounge. Grenelefe Golf and Tennis Resort have hosted some of the world's top golfers and tennis players, regularly hosted PGA qualifying tournaments, and for several years hosted the United Airlines Tennis Tournament of Champions. The West Course was even named the state's best course by Florida Golf Week magazine in 1982.
