Enchanting is the word that many use when describing the 9-hole Heron Executive Golf Course on the south shore of Lake Miona. Considered one of the fairest layouts in The Villages, Florida, golfers will enjoy the journey through large oaks and past scenic vistas of the lake. A photographer’s dream routing, Heron features a par-four hole and the Villages Executive Golf Trail’s first, unique horseshoe green.
Designed by Clifton, Ezell and Clifton, Heron first opened for play in 2004. Since then, the beauty of the golf course has been steadily gaining recognition for its rich natural surroundings and beautiful lake-side scenery. The par 28 Heron routing is also a wonderful habitat for many kinds of birds like hawks and Bald eagles, as well as plenty of squirrels and even the occasional alligator. So, it’s not surprising that the Heron Executive Golf Course was recognized by Audubon International as a certified signature sanctuary.
The Heron Executive Golf Course permits the novice to tee it up close and play an 851-yard track, while more experienced golfers may prefer the longer 1468-yard game from the back tees. A practice session is always available on the expansive driving range and is a great way for players to warm up before a round featuring lots of hazards and requiring most clubs in the bag.
Heron is a private layout, offered only to residents of the master-planned community of The Villages who pay no green fees and can walk the course for free. Many players prefer to use their own cart and can do so for a nominal trail fee. Trail fees can be paid per round, semi-annually, or annually.

The Villages of Sunset Pointe and Sunset Ridge is a well-established section of the much larger golf and retirement community known simply as – The Villages, Florida.
