Indian Hills Golf Course (formerly known as Indian Hills Country Club), designed by Herbert Strong, has been a cornerstone of Fort Pierce since 1942. The City acquired the course in 2002 and continually strives to improve both customer service and course conditions. In that spirit, the City retained golf course architect Ward Northrup to design an entirely new 18-hole layout on the existing grounds.
The new links-style layout is similar to what golfers may find in Europe. Built entirely on sugar sand, the course has excellent drainage even during the wettest summer months in Florida. This natural design allows the course to rarely have any cart restrictions due to weather. The sugar sand also means that the par 72 routing plays hard and fast during the dry, windy winter months, contrary to most courses in the region.
The 6,555-yard layout is enjoyed by long-time patrons and newcomers alike. This challenging yet friendly course features expansive tee surfaces, wide fairways, continuous concrete cart paths, and Tif-eagle greens. It also features 4 sets of tees for different skill levels. Seventy-two sand bunkers dot the landscape and add the challenge for tee shots and approaches. The course also offers a 320-yard practice range, a short game practice area, and golf lessons.
