Ironwood Golf Course at Gainesville is a public 18-hole golf course in Gainesville, Florida. The facility is owned by the City of Gainesville and operated by the Department of Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Affairs. It can be best described as a golf course with an interesting layout cleverly routed around towering pines and shimmering lakes.

The facility first opened in 1964, with David Wallace having provided the original golf course design, and has remained in business up to this day. This par 72 golf course stretches for 6,607-yards and with its four sets of tees can accommodate golfers of all different skill levels. Ironwood had a major renovation in 2010 with MacCurrach Golf Construction and Mike Beebe at the helm of the design. The original design was largely retained but the modified layout now features more contoured fairways and strategically placed bunkers.

Ironwood Golf Course at Gainesville has a complete set of practice facilities including a driving range, putting green, and chipping and pitching area. It also has a golf school staffed by a teaching pro providing lessons and assistance to interested students and veteran players alike.

Aside from the golf course and practice facilities, also has other amenities such as the diner where players can hang out and enjoy food and drinks post-game. The golf clubhouse can also be hired as a function venue for private events and gatherings. Many memorable weddings have had their reception hosted at the Ironwood Golf Course at Gainesville’s clubhouse.

Ironwood Golf Course at Gainesville

Ironwood Golf Course at Gainesville is a municipal golf facility and small residential community located on the northern outskirts of Gainesville. The David Wallace creation was originally built in 1964 but was subsequently renovated in 2010 with course architect Mike Beebe and MacCurrach Golf Construction in charge of the project.

The residential area in the western part of the golf course consists of around 80 single-family golf houses, as well as several multi-level townhouses and ranch homes. There’s also the Lewis Place at Ironwood which is the lone apartment complex in the community. These golf homes have a median price of approximately $330,000 which many here consider a great deal considering there’s an 18-hole golf course and certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary right next door.

Ironwood Golf Course at Gainesville is just a few minutes away from the city’s commercial district. There are three top-rated public schools in its vicinity while the University of Florida is just a quick drive from the community.
