Lowood and District Golf Club

Main Street, Lowood, QLD, 4311, Australia

Located in the Lockyer Valley, 25-minutes from the western Queensland town of Ipswich is the Lowood and District Golf Club. A 9 hole course at 5,312 meters in length and with a 72 part, it was designed by former professional Tom Southcombe.

Undulating, with good greens, water hazards at the opening two tees, and with shallow bunkers, the course features two tees at each box. The variety and change in pars are worthwhile. The mix of long par 5s and tight, challenging par 3s works well.

Hole 6 is considered more difficult. It's initially a par 4, becoming a par 5 when playing the full 18 holes. It requires a long, accurate drive from the tee, with a middle to the long iron approach shot. The narrow green is fast with a bunker protecting the right side.

The country setting of Lowood permeates the atmosphere of the course. The clubroom is complete with 1950s signage, while the course presentation is neat but unpretentious. Spacious and open, the landscape is calming and quaint. The Lowood and District Golf Club is popular within its town, servicing a healthy membership rate, and working as a social hub for the community. Competitions for a variety of abilities and age groups are regularly held.
