The Mt Derrimut Golf and Community Club are located on the western outskirts of Melbourne, the Mt. Derrimut Golf and Community Club originated in 1923 on a course called "The Rock and Thistle". This original course was a nine-hole par 66, with sandscape greens. The land was heavily encrusted with lava rock outcrops and thick with scotch thistles.
In 2002, the club decided to relocate for a second time to the current Mt Derrimut site. The move took place in November 2007 and the club now boasts a full 18-hole championship course with fully irrigated greens and fairways that use only recycled water.
The par 72 layouts at Mt Derrimut was designed by Craig Parry and Pacific Coast Design to complement the historic significance of the site. The 6,204-metres long walk or cart course has undulating Santa-ana grass fairways, well-bunkered greens, and numerous featured water hazards.
The clubhouse at Mt Derrimut incorporates the site's original farm homestead, built-in 1883, with many of the buildings of the past being retained and used by the club. The historic dry stone walls are also an integral feature of the course.
The clubhouse offers both bar and dining options that can also cater for events and functions. There is a pro shop available for golfers along with a practice area and the new undercover 24 bay floodlit driving range.
