The private Naruo Golf Club in Kawanishi, Hyogo Prefecture, features a highly interesting course artfully designed and strategically laid out by three British expatriates, the Crane brothers, and the famed course designer Charles Hugh Alison in the verdant hills east of Japan's famed Rokko Mountain Range. The way the natural terrain is incorporated into the course layout is reminiscent of classic courses built in the heathland belt of England, sometimes referred to as "mountain links".

In 1914 the Naruo Golf Association was established at Naruohama with a nine-hole course, before becoming the Naruo Golf Club and expanding to 18-holes by 1924. Following economic constraints, the club moved to its present location outside Osaka and opened the Naruo-Inagawa course in 1930. In the following years, the club improved the new layout under the advice of British golf course designer Charles H. Alison and although the course and club facilities have been renovated many times over the years the par 71 layout remains largely unchanged.

The greens of the 6,612-yard Naruo-Inagawa course are korai grass (Manila grass), sometimes called 'Japanese carpet' or 'Korean grass'. Always maintained in top-notch condition, the greens are widely recognized as being among the best in Japan. Alison's bunkers at Naruo take advantage of the natural deformations of the land and masterfully incorporate vertical height changes that follow natural contours, with sand-filled flush to the edge.

Due to the land constraints, golfers at Naruo will find a Pro shop along with a putting green, however, other practice facilities are very limited. The clubhouse also provides bar and restaurant services to members and their guests.
