By 1939 the dredging efforts of the City of Miami Beach had created the Normandy Shores Isle and it was at this time that the first plans for the 18-hole Normandy Shores Golf Club were drawn up. With great pride the City of Miami Beach held the dedication ceremony for the new golf course and clubhouse on December 18, 1941.

Around 1956 the City hired Mark Mahannah, Sr. to renovate the Normandy Shores' original Howard C. Toomey and William S Flynn designed layout. Once the renovation was complete the club became a hot spot for both the famous and infamous. Sam Snead, Arnold Palmer, and Peter Thompson were just few of now legendary professional golfers that played Normandy Shores Golf Club on a regular basis.

Over the subsequent decades the course has been maintained by the City of Miami Beach and because of the easy access of the 79th street causeway, Normandy Shores Golf Course became the perfect spot for Miami Beach, Miami, North Miami and Miami Shores golfers to enjoy a round.

Fast forward to 2008 and the City of Miami Beach spent over $9 million to renovate the spectacular Normandy Shores Golf Club. The City hired world renowned golf course architect Arthur Hills, and together with Steve Forrest, he redesigned the aging par 71 course which now measures 6,805-yards and brought it back to its current state of glory. The club now also offers plenty of golf practice facilities, a Pro shop, tennis courts, and The Normandy Shores Grill, which along with being a golfer favourite, has become the neighbourhood spot.

In 2011 the Inaugural South Beach International Amateur was played the week before Christmas at Normandy Shores and Miami Beach Golf Clubs, becoming the highest ranked inaugural amateur tournament since rankings were introduced. Yearly the SBIA has one of the best and largest international fields in the world with 30 or more countries represented.
