Oak Leaf Golf Course is an 18-hole semi-private layout located in Okeechobee, Florida. Just off US Route 441 Oak Leaf is just eight miles north of the Okeechobee City center area. The golf club first opened in 1965 and was a staple in Okeechobee’s golf scene despite undergoing numerous renovations and multiple ownerships.
The Bermuda grass golf course stretched to a maximum of 6,699-yards when played from its longest tees for a par of 72. Originally designed by Mark Mahannah, Sr. the golf course’s layout was constantly retouched but still retained Mahannah’s original design after each renovation. It had 4 sets of tees to accommodate players of all skill levels and with a slope of 123 and a USGA rating of 72.3, it was welcoming for newbies and at the same time challenging enough for the more seasoned players.
Oak Leaf Golf Course had its golf Pro shop which sold golf accessories and equipment. The shop was also where customers inquire about cart and club rentals. The club’s practice facilities included a driving range where players could test their swing before taking on the course proper.
The Oak Leaf Golf Course’s non-golf amenities included a bar and restaurant at the clubhouse area where players could always get a delicious bite to eat or a cold drink before or after a round. There was also a teaching professional on standby in case anyone needed some assistance or golf lessons.

Oak Leaf Golf Course is a now-defunct golf club located on the northern outskirts of Okeechobee City in Central Florida. The former golf course is surrounded by a modest selection of detached single-family golf homes that form the Oak Leaf Golf Course community.
As an open community without any Homeowners’ Association overseeing the neighborhood, the Oak Leaf Golf Course community does not have many amenities to offer considering the Mark Mahannah, Sr. designed golf course is now permanently closed. The beauty and tranquility of its location are the prime assets of the community, which at just eight miles north of downtown Okeechobee, makes Oak Leaf Golf Course the ideal compromise between rural and suburban living for many potential homebuyers.
The Oak Leaf Golf Course community is right beside the US Route 441 highway making commuting simple. And, while the golf course is now gone, the ambiance it provided for the community remains and residents still get to enjoy the serenity of the area, plus the increased presence of wild animals now that the golfers are gone.
