Sitting on the Manatee/Sarasota county line in sunny Florida, the Palm Aire Country Club of Sarasota, Champions Course is a private 18-hole layout. Opened over 60 years ago the layout has been updated and improved many times since then and is a fun, yet challenging experience for all golfers. The routing’s signature 18th hole, with its island green, is well-known throughout southwest Florida.
Designed by Dick Wilson, architect of such well-known courses as Bay Hill, Doral’s Blue Monster, Cog Hill, and Laurel Valley, the par 72 Champions Course was formerly known as the DeSoto Lakes Country Club. The layout has hosted many varied and significant competitions over the years, including the National Association of Left-handed Golfers in 1965, and an LPGA event which was won by LPGA Hall of Famer Louise Suggs.
Measuring 7,005 yards from the longest tees, the greens of the Palm Aire Country Club of Sarasota, Champions Course are covered in high-quality Tifeagle grass to ensure smooth rolling and evenly paced surfaces. In 2021, the layout had a tee to green renovation, led by Michael J. Benkusky. The renovation prioritized green expansion, fairways regression, and construction of new and expanded tee complexes.
Not just golf, the Palm Aire Country Club of Sarasota also offers eight Har-Tru tennis courts and eight pickleball courts, plus a junior Olympic-sized swimming pool and fitness center, exclusive for members. The country club also has a full-service bar and restaurant, and a function venue for private gatherings and events.
For golfers who want to work on their game, the club has a driving range, chipping green, and putting green. Other services like the rental of carts and clubs, as well as one-on-one golf lessons with teaching professionals, are also available.

Palm Aire has more than 30 sections of homes that feature a total of 3,752 golf residences, differentiated in various styles and sizes. Many of the golf properties are part of distinct living areas, whether for young families, individuals, or age restricted. Many of the golf homes are on the lakeside waterfront, providing residents with serene views of the water and the two surrounding 18-hole golf courses.
