PGA National Resort and Spa in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, has five championship 18-hole golf courses, the most famous of which is the Champion Course, which has hosted the Ryder Cup once, the PGA Championship once, and the Senior PGA Championship for 19 consecutive years between 1982 and 2000.
The PGA National Resort and Spa, Champion Course was built by George and Tom Fazio and first opened in 1981. The par 72 layout underwent a major renovation in 2002 and became the home of The Honda Classic on the PGA Tour in 2007. The tough three-hole stretch from the 15th through to the 17th is known as ‘The Bear Trap,' named after Jack Nicklaus who redesigned the course.
One of the toughest non-major venues on the PGA Tour schedule, boasting an average per-round score of 1.318 over par, the improved Champion now features Celebration Bermuda grass on the fairways, tees, and green surrounds. Fortunately for those looking to conquer the 7,045-yard Champion layout, the club is home to the PGA National Golf Academy and extensive practice facilities. The double-sided driving range, short-game area, putting greens, and indoor training area provides a comfortable setting to work on your game.
The resort also includes luxury hotel rooms, nine restaurants and lounges, a 34,000-square-foot conference wing, a 40,000-square-foot spa, a 33,000-square-foot health and racquet club with 19 tennis courts, a golf digest academy, and a member's club.
