Located beside the Brisbane River and only a 10-minute drive from the Brisbane CBD is the Royal Queensland Golf Club which is the premier golf club in Queensland, boasting the number one golf course in the State. Although a private club limited visitor access is available to this highly ranked walk or cart championship course.

Founded in 1920 the club was opened by Governor-General Lord Forster in 1921. King George V gave the club its Royal Charter in 1921 and the King's official letter of notification to the Governor of Queensland was signed by Winston Churchill. Royal Queensland has hosted three Australian Open Championships and four Australian Amateur Championships, as well as a multitude of other significant professional and amateur events.

The original course was designed by Carnegie Clark, and when Dr. Alister MacKenzie was persuaded to visit Brisbane in 1926 he contributed his renowned design wisdom to a number of holes. However, circumstances necessitated the construction of a new championship course, which was completed in December 2007 and is currently rated the 22nd in Australia.

The new 18-hole Royal Queensland course was designed by Michael Clayton following the State Government's decision in 2005 to build a second Gateway Bridge over the famous course. The new par 72 layout is intended to place an emphasis on strategic golf. The width and space afforded golfers from the tee give them every opportunity to decide for themselves where best to play.

The Royal Queensland Golf Club has a well-stocked Pro shop for players as well as ample practice facilities whilst the clubhouse offers members and visitors excellent bar and dining options. The club can also cater to both private and corporate functions.
