The exclusive and very private Shanqin Bay Golf Club, in the south east of Hainan Island, is one of China's premier golfing locations. Surrounded by sea on three sides the club's 18-hole golf course features spectacular scenery and unique elevation changes as a result of the remarkable terrain on which it was built.
The par 71 layout was designed and constructed under the guidance of the golf architecture firm of Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw. The fairways of this 6,894-yard course occupy a spectacular coastal site on which many thought a golf course could never be built, such is the extremely challenging nature of the topography.
Unlike many courses in China, Shanqin Bay is not heavily manicured and is very natural. The course offers an excellent mix of sand dunes, trees, bushes, vegetation, beach, valley, rocky outcrop, and coastline cliffs. Each hole is varied and has its own unique characteristic resulting in a stunning course that stimulates players to play multiple times due to its superb routing, layout, and views.
In addition to the Pro shop and caddie services Shanqin Bay offers golfers an array of practice facilities including a driving range, chipping and bunker practice areas and putting greens, all designed to mimic the conditions found on the course. Built on the site of a former radar station and perched on top of a cliff, the clubhouse has a spa for its members and provides both bar and dining options.
