The Sorrento Golf Club enjoys a special reputation as one of Australia's premier golf courses and is located only 90-minutes from Melbourne on the Mornington Peninsula. Sorrento is a private golf club although some limited tee times are available to visitors and guests of members.
The club was formed on March 30 in 1907 and was then known as The Sorrento and Portsea Golf Club. In 1909, for reasons which were not recorded, an extraordinary general meeting of the club decided to eliminate the words 'and Portsea' from the name of the club, thus the club adopted its current name - Sorrento Golf Club.
Sorrento has an immaculate, undulating course with Santa Anna couch fairways, bent grass greens and offers all-year playability as the par 70 courses have been constructed on a sand and limestone base. It is not a particularly long course, measuring 5,833-metres, but there are many challenging holes that require good course management.
Golfers can take advantage of the driving range and practice area to hone their skills and the Pro shop can assist with any equipment required and has a repair service. The fully licensed clubhouse can provide snacks and light meals and is an excellent spot to unwind after a walk or cart around. The club can also cater to events and functions, both private and corporate.
