Just off the coast of the Gulf in Citrus County, Florida, the 18-hole golf course at Southern Woods Golf Club opened for play in 1992. Designed by architects Hale Irwin and Dick Phelps, the course measures 6,935-yards from the back tees, with a USGA rating of 73.0 and a slope of 127.
Southern Woods Golf Club boasts a double-sided driving range, a separate putting green, and a large chipping green with a practice bunker and area for longer pitch shots. The driving range has Laserlink yardage binoculars to judge accurate distances to the flags.
The Southern Woods Pro shop carries various men's and ladies' golf wear, shoes, visors, golf balls, and accessories. They also have a Nike and CobraFitting cart to fit golfers for a set of clubs that suits their swing. The Pro shop also places special orders for items not carried in stock.
Aside from golf, members can use the Oak Village Sports Complex. The facility features eight championship tennis courts, four pickleball courts, a fitness center, a junior Olympic size pool, baby wading pool, an outdoor three-sided racquetball/handball area, children's play area, two bocce courts, and four shuffleboard courts.
After a day of golf, members can visit The Restaurant at Southern Woods, where golfers can enjoy a variety of dishes. The club's main dining room is primarily used for dinners and events, whereas the Grille Room and Bar has a casual, laid-back atmosphere and is where lunch is primarily served. There's also have a fully stocked bar that provides an informal atmosphere before and after golf get-togethers.
