The success and popularity of The Dunes are a direct reflection of the course layout. Designed by Tony Cashmore, the 18 hole championship course is a challenging 6,436-metre, par 72. While the 9 hole Cups course is a delightful par 33 and very popular with juniors and local residents.
The Dunes is beautifully undulating, a true links course in the Scottish and Irish traditions. Dry all year round with a sandy base The Dunes layout is fully irrigated, with Santa Ana couch fairways and excellent Cobra bent greens. The course winds through rolling valleys, hollows, hillocks, and swales, and although there are just a few gentle hills, most greens and tees are in elevated positions.
The Cups Course offers a friendlier introduction to the game for beginners or just a quicker round of golf for seasoned players. A highlight of the Cups Course is its downhill 6th hole, which plays only 74 meters from the back tee, and might be the shortest golf hole in the nation. The 6th hole was voted 'Best Short Par 3' in Australia.
These walk or cart, courses have seen such accolades as being ranked among the Top 20 courses in Australia for the past 15 years. The Dunes also consistently ranks as Victoria's number one public access course and among the Top three public access courses Australia-wide.
Visitors to The Dunes can also utilize a driving range with both turfs hitting areas and artificial grassed tees, chipping, pitching and bunker area, practice hitting nets, a large putting area, and the clubhouse restaurant.
