The Hills - Hills Course is located in New Zealand's picturesque Central Otago region and developed by the charismatic Sir Michael Hill, is the private golf club known simply as The Hills. This 18-hole championship course is unusual in that it whilst being coherent as a whole evolved in an incremental fashion without a singular design 'rulebook'.

Opened in 2007 to host the New Zealand Open this amazing course is set over 500-acres of land across a beautiful glacial valley. The Hills is home to an incredible array of flora including native brown top grasses and wild native mountain tussocks.

The course which permits limited visitor access is a challenge for even the best of players and features numerous lakes, waterways, and wetland areas. However, plenty of thought and consideration was given to the design to ensure that it remains enjoyable for players of more modest abilities.

The 6,596-metre par 72 layout has numerous elevated tees offering players 360-degree views of spectacular snow-capped mountain scenery. There are no parallel fairways along the walk or cart layout and no two holes are alike.

Also available to golfers and known as The Farm, is the new nine-hole short course designed by Darius Oliver. This clever layout has nine bunkers less par 3 holes, routed around an almost century-old water race that acts as the site's central feature.

The clubhouse which can provide both bar and meal services is a sophisticated bunker with less than a quarter of its structure visible above ground and is designed to integrate seamlessly with the landscape. Of particular note at The Hills are the stunning array of sculptures that have been created by both local and internationally renowned artists which accompany the course's beautiful water features.
