The National Golf Club is located at Cape Schanck on Victoria's spectacular Mornington Peninsula and is just a short drive to the south of Melbourne. The club has three exceptional and highly regarded 18-hole golf courses, the Old Course designed by Robert Trent Jones Jnr, The Moonah designed by Greg Norman, and the soon to be opened Gunnamatta Course designed by Tom Doak, which ensures the club continues to rank as one of the best locations for golf in the country.

The National Golf Club was first launched to the public in a hospitality tent at Huntingdale Golf Club during The Master's tournament in February 1985. The club was an equity shareholding and was the first new golf club to be formed in Melbourne for approximately 60 years.

In 1996 the club purchased a spectacular piece of natural golfing links set amongst sand dunes with the coastline to Port Phillip Heads in the background. A subsequent land purchase eventually led to the expansion of The National to a 54-hole complex and cast the club into the forefront of golf in Australia.

In November 2014, a vote was put to the members of The National Golf Club and Long Island Country Club to effectively merge and form one club. Members of both clubs voted in favor and as a result, The National is now the only golf club in Australia where members have access to four championship layouts.

The National Golf Club boasts some of the finest practice facilities in the country. The range at Cape Schanck offers over 100-square meters of quality ryegrass to hit off and has seven target greens at varying distances for an approach to green practice and is more than 260-meters in length for long game practice. The short game practice areas are designed with contours and slopes similar in nature to the design features of the courses and provide areas for bunker practice, pitching practice, and putting practice.

With uninterrupted ocean views beyond the undulating golf courses, the clubhouse provides golfers the ideal spot to relax with drinks or a meal and is also a picturesque setting for functions and events featuring multiple event spaces.
