5. Golf Course

Lo Romero is often referred to as a ‘Golf Island' because of its signature hole at the 18th. The course has drawn the following playing this par 4 hole that lets you drive off from the top of the hill heading towards the island green surrounded by water. Accessible only by a footbridge this hole is reminiscent of TPC Sawgrass Hole no. 17. Being reasonably close to the sea, the wind adds to the challenge of playing this exciting last hole.

Designed by Jorge Gallen and Enric Soler, the duo made full use of the hills, valleys, woodland, lakes, and streams to create a challenging par 72, 18-hole course. The woodland consists of Aleppo Pines, Carob trees, natural scrub bushes that grow alongside the Palm trees, and an abundance of Rosemary (Romero) plants found growing in their natural environment (where the course was named after). This gives the golf course its Mediterranean character.

Lo Romero has a total length of 6,628 yards from the yellow tee. The course itself is challenging with strategically placed hazards but also fair to all levels of golfer. Its technical difficulty is rated at 3 out of 5 or moderate. The fantastic condition of the course ensures that it can be enjoyed by all.

Buying a golf home in Lo Romero also offers practice facilities to prepare golfers for their round. This is accessible either by foot or buggy. Three large platforms on natural grass can accommodate 30 golfers simultaneously. There are also covered bays for long game practice, a bunker area, a chipping green area for the short game, and 2 putting greens.

7. Clubhouse & Amenities

The clubhouse is a simple log cabin-type facility. Since space is limited, the restaurant is a cozy open terrace that overlooks the 18th green. They serve delicious tapas dishes that are highly recommended.

There is a pro shop with a selection of merchandise and a rental service for clubs, buggies, and electric trolleys. A changing room with lockers is also conveniently accessible.

8. Home Owners Association and Fees

Since this is a new project development, the golf communities are pretty new and are just starting to establish their community fees. One golf community has set its community fees at 75 euros per month. Others may follow suit within that range.

Other fees to consider would be the annual property tax or the IBI Tax or Suma Fees which will depend on the size of the property. The Resident or Non-Resident Tax or IRNR is payable each year per person. The insurance and utility charges for gas, electricity, and water and key holder fees should you avail of this service. The keyholder will look after your property, offer cleaning, laundry services, and any general maintenance in case you decide to use it as a vacation home.

10. Dining Options

At present, dining is served at the clubhouse restaurant. For more dining options, the nearest town Pilar de la Horadada is less than 5 km away or an 8 min driving distance. The town offers all the services and facilities like supermarkets, banks, medical facilities, shops, and good restaurants that serve authentic Spanish and international cuisine.

Lo Romero is still in the development phase in terms of the amenities needed by a self-contained golf community. Living here would require your own private vehicle for easy access to surrounding areas and convenience. But the golf community looks promising and offers a lot of potential with its location, accessibility, growth, and popularity. This is a good investment as a vacation rental home and even a future golf home for those contemplating living in Spain.
