Oak Leaf Golf Course is a small community in Okeechobee, Florida, just off the US Route 441 highway and only eight miles north of Okeechobee’s downtown area. Even with the golf club now permanently closed for business, there is a small collection of golf homes surrounding the now-defunct golf club.
There are less than 50 single-family golf homes in the Oak Leaf Golf Course community, and they are noticeably well-spaced, with plenty of distance from one golf property to another. The area is far from densely built and there are still a lot of vacant lots and empty spaces which makes it ideal for startup families or retirees who are looking for a serene and quiet environment to design and build their homes. Oak Leaf is an open community which means it is not under any organized community association. Consequently, there are no expensive HOA fees or community fees except for regular state taxes.
Oak Leaf Golf Course used to be a staple in Okeechobee City until the 18-hole golf course designed by Mark Mahannah, Sr. closed for business. And, while the golf course is now gone, the ambiance it provided for the community remains and residents still get to enjoy the serenity of the area, plus the increased presence of wild animals now that the golfers are gone.
As an open community without any homeowner’s association overseeing the neighborhood, Oak Leaf Golf Course does not have any amenities to offer. The single-family golf homes here are, however, very affordable considering their prime location and the size of the houses which are mid to large-sized with large garages and yards.
