Billy Fuller
Billy Fuller graduated from North Carolina State University in 1972, with an associate degree in Turfgrass Management. After three years in civil engineering and a shift to agronomy, Billy spent the next 14 years serving as a golf course superintendent or director of agronomy at golf courses such as Seabrook Island Resort, Wildewood Country Club, Palmetto Dunes Resort, Kiawah Island Resort, and Augusta National Golf Club. He also developed a new and innovative approach to bunker design, the specifications of which came to be widely known as “Billy Bunkers.”
In 1988, in a career-defining moment, Fuller decided to turn to golf course design. He joined Cupp Design where, as a design associate and senior agronomist, he completed over 100 new courses. After a six-year stint, he started his very own company – Billy Fuller Golf Design. With his expertise in golf course operations, combined with design knowledge and experience he gained from working with Bob Cupp, Fuller was able to offer clients strategically sound and economically affordable golf from construction to renovation.
Billy Fuller Golf Design opened in Atlanta, Georgia. Fuller believes that great golf design creates an enjoyable golf experience for all players no matter what their skill levels may be. A golf course must make a player come back for more. It must offer risk and reward opportunities, excellent aesthetics, and outstanding turf conditions. For owners, on the other hand, a golf course must bring economic success.
