Tom Clark
Having started his career with Ault, Clark and Associates, Ltd., which is based in Marshall, Virginia, in 1971, Tomas E. Clark has significant experience in all phases of golf course architecture and assumed co-ownership of the firm in 1989. Tom was born and raised in Broomall, Pennsylvania, and graduated from Penn State University with a B.S. in Landscape Architecture. In 1995 he received Penn State's Prestigious Alumni Achievement Award.
Tom has been a Project Architect for hundreds of projects, including improvement planning to exist golf courses, as well as site evaluation and design of new golf facilities ranging from tournament players' courses for the PGA Tour, to executive and par 3 golf courses and golf course/homesite developments. In addition, these facilities have been provided for all types of operations such as municipal or public, resort, and private. Projects have taken Tom throughout the United States and abroad to countries including Korea, Ireland, Canada, and Mexico.
Tom Clark is a 'hands-on' architect, who is involved in a project 'from plans to play' - preparing the various plans and specifications, assisting in the bid negotiation process, and providing personal on-site observations during construction to ensure that the work is being properly implemented, both on time and within budget. He has frequently been invited to give talks and presentations at various university and professional seminars and has had numerous articles printed in golf magazines and other related publications.
Many of Tom's projects have received awards and recognition through Golf Digest Magazine's ranking lists, including Diamante Golf Course, Ponce de Leon, Magellan, and Isabella in Arkansas - where he has had as many as six of the top 10 courses at one time. He also has courses among the top 10 in Missouri, Virginia, West Virginia, and Nevada.
Tom Clark's professional associations include the American Society of Golf Course Architects, the American Society of Landscape Architects, the Mid-Atlantic Golf Course Superintendents Association, the Pennsylvania Golf Course Superintendents Association, and the National Golf Association Mid-Atlantic PGA Advisory Boards, and the Golf Course Superintendent Association of America.
