Tom Watson
Tom Watson or Thomas Sturges Watson (born September 4, 1949) is an American professional golfer, formerly on the PGA Tour and currently on the PGA Tour Champions. In the 1970s and 1980s, Watson was one of the leading players in the world, winning eight major championships and heading the PGA Tour money list five times.
In the world of golf and golf course design, Watson's name is synonymous with dedication, excellence, and integrity. He brings these same qualities to each of his golf course designs.
Each layout Tom designs is intended to challenge the limits of the golfer's mental and physical skills. With this goal in mind, Watson strives to excite golfers of every caliber, all the while providing a memorable golfing experience. According to Watson, this is done by giving the illusion that a shot is more difficult or easier than it actually is.
"My goals as a designer are many-fold. The two most important criteria are beauty and playability," says Watson. His designs always look to achieve these two vital criteria within a framework of remaining sensitive to the environment, providing innovative design, and drawing inspiration from each course location.
