The East Lake Woodlands Country Club, South Course is one of the so-called “beginners' layouts.” Compared to most of the 18-hole championship routings in Florida, specifically, the North Course which is its counterpart at East Lake, the South has an easier slope and limited water hazards to worry about.
Opened in 1974 and designed by architect Tom Jackson, the par 72 South Course measures 6,705-yards from the longest tees, which is shorter than the North. The routing offers six sets of tee positions, including three men's, a senior's, ladies', and a junior. The layout has wide fairways and over two acres of Tifeagle greens that provide a fun, yet challenging round for players of any age or skill level.
At the East Lake Woodlands Country Club, golfers can use the largest golf practice facilities in the Tampa area with both an expansive driving range and a separate short iron range. The course also offers a large putting green or the elevated, full-sized chipping green with an accompanying sand trap, plus golfers can rent clubs or carts from the Pro shop.
Golf clinics with professional trainers are available for both adults and juniors who want to learn more about the sport, regardless of experience. Junior golfers can even join the club's Crush It! Program, featuring fun and simple classes for kids and teens to learn new skills while gaining a deeper understanding of the sportsmanship and camaraderie that golfers of all ages share.
The club also has a variety of golf associations and leagues, plus plentiful tournaments that offer both fun and a challenge while providing an opportunity to meet other members. For special member gatherings and golf events, the course welcomes any members of the club to host an event in its spacious and elegantly designed clubhouse, with access to two resort-style swimming pools and 16 tennis courts, 14 clay, and two hard-surfaced courts.
