The Fountains South Course is second among the 3 private championship golf courses built by the club, this 18-hole championship course opened in 1972.
Course architects Bruce Devlin and Robert Von Hagge collaborated to design a classic golf course with a unique characteristic. The layout of the holes passes through multiple lakes scattered throughout the course. Only Holes 16 and 17 have been spared from the influence of these water hazards. There are at least 8 doglegs with 6 of them being severe. The fairways are set on a wide-open and mostly flat terrain and surfaced with Bermuda. Slight mounds and bunkers scattered along the landing zones and the green sides add to the challenge. Lastly, the greens are made of TifEagle grass ensuring a well-maintained fast putting surface.
The Fountains South Course is par 72. It is the shortest among the 3 courses measuring 6,783 yards from the longest tees. There are 5 sets of tees catering to different skill levels. The course is rated as 73.1 with a slope rating of 133. A challenging course but friendly enough for beginners.
The South Course hosts several PGA Qualifying Tournaments like the Allianz Championship and the Honda Classic. The first 4 holes are considered the most difficult earning the title ‘the finest and most requested course to play' by several PGA Tour professionals.
