In the shadow of the majestic Southern Alps, Terrace Downs Resort lies in the heart of the picturesque Canterbury region and is home to the Terrace Downs Golf Club. The location was strategically chosen for rural tranquility and magnificent scenery, its nearness to top tourist attractions, and its proximity to Christchurch, the gateway to the South Island. The club features an 18-hole, par 72 championship course that professionals describe as challenging for all golfers.
Terrace Downs golf course has been rated by the New Zealand Golf magazine as one of the top five courses in the country and was voted the top golf resort in New Zealand in the 2010 World Travel Awards. It is New Zealand at its pristine best with majestic mountains, braided rivers, a tapestry of plains, and scenery so grand it can hardly fail to gladden the eye.
At a length of 6,406-metres off the back tees the Terrace Downs layout, designed by David Cox and Sid Puddicombe, includes 10 lakes and over 60 bunkers. The links-style back nine has been described as having a Scottish feel whilst the parkland-style front nine is more sheltered with a picturesque woodland feel.
Golfers at the club will find a well-stocked pro shop and there is a driving range and putting green to warm up on before a round. Terrace Downs also features deluxe accommodation, a selection of bar and dining areas serving signature high country cuisine, and a range of adventure activities to indulge in such as horse riding, skiing, and archery.
