A golf course where players can have the entire layout all for themselves, The Club at Cheval in Lutz, Florida, is one of the most well-maintained semi-private routings that are still open to the public. Designed by Steve Smyers, this 18-hole golf course is deemed by many as “the place to be” for golfers in the greater Tampa Bay Area.
The par 71 layout requires golfers of different handicaps to be strategic and maintain their control and accuracy up to the final hole. Each hole has unique challenges to ensure a fair yet stimulating round for everyone, be they golf professionals or not.
The 6th at Cheval is recognized by many as the most difficult in the entirety of Hillsborough County and requires a long drive off the tee. Golfers who play down the center of the fairway will still be left with 200-yards to the middle of the green. Simultaneously, players on eleven must achieve a tee shot of at least 220-yards to allow a clear shot to the green, while those who hit it short of that will be blocked by trees. Finally, the 17th provides the final and most challenging par 3 on the course. The only place to miss the green is to the right, as water short of the green wraps around the left side all the way to the back of the green. Birdies are rare on Cheval’s signature holes.
Measuring 6,961 yards from the longest tees, The Club at Cheval layout is surrounded by towering trees and a beautiful set of wildlife and migratory birds. Beginners will particularly enjoy practicing at the Cheval facility which includes target greens, a putting green, a pitching green, and more. Golfers also have access to teaching professionals to help them achieve their best round.
Aside from golf, members and the public can access nine fully lit Har-Tru Tennis courts with LED lighting and can use the Cheval Athletic Club’s Pickleball courts, Peloton bikes, heated swimming pool, playground, fitness center, and other sports courts.
