Situated on the northern bank of the Murray River, amidst the flatlands of the Riverina, Tocumwal Golf and Bowls Club is about 700-kilometres southwest of Sydney and three hours drive north of Melbourne.
Tocumwal boasts two, immaculately presented championship courses, with excellent grass greens and very gently undulating, watered fairways of Wintergreen couch. Both 18 hole layouts possess a unique blend of well-positioned bunkers as well as the occasional, strategically placed water hazard. There is an abundance of native flora and fauna to add to this picturesque, native parkland experience.
The majority of the Presidents course is made up of holes that were first created back in the 1950s after the land was purchased from the RAAF. The club's link to this time in history is recalled with a scale replica of a B-24, mounted on a pole next to the club's entrance.
The first nine holes of the Presidents course were played with sand greens until they were converted to grass in 1970. Another nine holes were added four years later, while the second of the par 72 layouts, known as the Captains course, was completed in 1993. All the new holes were created by former Australian amateur representative and course designer, Kevin Hartley.
Both walk or cart courses are publicly accessible and golfers can utilize Tocumwal's other facilities including the pro shop, driving range, and practice putting area. The clubhouse offers a bar and bistro and is also home to the lawn bowls club and their excellent greens.
