Kevin Hartley

Kevin Hartley is one of Australia's finest amateur golfers. Described as 'arguably Australia's best ever amateur golfer' for winning both the Victorian and Australian Amateur Championships, representing his country in four Eisenhower Cups, and winning the Ivo Whitton Trophy for scoring averages an unprecedented 13 times.

Known as 'The Dart' for his accuracy on the course, Hartley came to prominence in 1950 when he won the Victorian Boys Championship at Medway (Victoria), his home course. He went on to play at the highest level, all while raising a family and earning a living as an engineer,

During his long playing career, Kevin Hartley played alongside many of the greats of his era including Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player. His involvement in golf course design and some notable run-ins with organizations and individuals are regarded by many as legendary.

Notable designs include two well-known courses near Melbourne, Victoria. Firstly, the Curlewis golf course's original links layout, established by Vern Morcom was enhanced in 1976 by a course master plan devised by Kevin. ?He also made significant contributions to the layout at the members-only Commonwealth Golf Club.
